Change of Ubuntu Operating System to Windows 7
The One Laptop per Child program being undertaken by the government of Ghana in collaboration with RLG Communications; is giving the laptops to the schools and children coming with an Operating System opposite to what they have in their syllabus.
The Basic school ICT Syllabus is based on Microsoft Windows, but the Laptops RLG is distributing to the Basic schools is Ubuntu Linux based.
This could be due to certain reason unimaginable; We think that RLG took this decision because, the cost of Windows Operating System will be expensive to handle, so the best option will be Ubuntu, which is an open source Operating system qualifying as "free".
The Head teacher and the ICT Teacher of one school in the Volta Region pleaded with us to come to their aid.
We therefore sent a team first to be sure of the situation, and our next action was to go and return with good news; which we did!
Though our operation to change all the notebooks to Windows OS was successful, there were a few major challenges, which required using the command line to arrive at a success. We will commend our team who went there for a good job done.
The notebooks wouldn't respond to 3 different external CD Readers we connected to it, that was when we had to rely on the command line.
Since then; we have had countless calls and mails to deliver the same job type!
These are the sort of action that make us Proud!
